Cabling question

I just moved into a new house, which has dish built-in to outside of the house, 2 cables from dish coming inside to house. As it's shown below:

My LL said that I can buy some SKY box to watch some stuff but I am not interested for pay tv yet. So my question is. How can I connect this two cables to tv so at least I can watch whatever I can of free channels.

I didn't bought the tv yet but I don't think I can put these cables directly. I think I need to turn them into a single cable and to socket like this.

So what do I need to achieve this?

There is another installation that has 1 cable that goes from living room to bedroom but I can't change the sockets as they are like binded to cable.

I found this UPC box (turns out it's virgin media) but I am not planning to use them, but not sure if I can use the built in stuff for my own needs (for watching free channels)

Edit: I think I can't connect them to my tv directly I suppose? Do I need to buy a TV that has built-in tuner? Or external receiever is a must? Plus what should I pay attention about tuner or external receiver as supporting technology? Saorview, digital tv etc. they are all new things to me

The sat cables with the f connectors in the first pic will either connect to a sat box such as an old sky box or Humax Freesat HD 1000S which uses two cables and allows you record and change channel etc for free sat channels. You will not get RTE for free as you will need a terrestrial aerial and either a Saorview compatible tv to decode the signal or a combo box.

The other Virgin connection could be cut outside if it isnt you can run a cable from the splitter dirrectly to the tv however this is classed as fraud as you are not paying for it, an f connector to coax lead however virgin could cut the connection outside at any time

Finally you should get the dish checked by somebody in the industry or use an old sky box before you spend any money in case there is something wrong with it.

Thank you so much for the answer. Can I view the free satellite channels and also Saorview channels if I buy a tv that supports Saorview and has built-in tuner? Or I need terrestrial aerial anyways to watch Saorview channels and satellite won't be a replacement for terrestrial aerial ?

I can't/don't want to mount anything extra to outside of house, so is it possible to get terrestrial aerial as portable dish that I can put inside my house?

You will need a terrestrial Aerial for the tv no matter what, you may be lucky if you live near a transmitter an internal Aerial mite work or possible to place an aerial in the attic. You can get a tv with a built in sat tuner, new Sony tvs some samsung and lg tvs have them as well as some of the cheaper walker tvs which I would avoid like the plague very poor sound from them in my opinion.

And how can I connect both F connectors and terrestial Aerial to tv at same time? Do I need to get a disecqc to connect all sources to it and get 1 cable that goes into TV? Will it work fine if I connect both satellite and indoor Aerial from same connection?

If you are buying a new tv you will be looking for one with two tuners, one sat and one terrestrial so both cables will go in side by side directly to the tv or alternatively you can buy a combo box again which has both a terrestrial tuner and satellite tuner...so no diseq or splitter is required

Thanks a million, last question, should I use diseqc for binding 2 satellite cables together before putting into tv (not sure if it depends on the tv brand and model or not)

You only need a diseq switch if you want to add a different satellite mix to the one cable eg. you can have astra 2 @ 28 east english stuff and hotbird @ 13 east mostly foreign down one cable so unless you need that facility u wont need a switch ....some sony models have a dual tuner sat but they are expensive...if you want to record a sat box mite be a better option....a humax for just the freesat or a linux based enigma box if you want recording on rte as well etc plenty of talk here about them

But then how can I connect two satellite cables to tv at same time? Or I don't have to, and connecting one of these cables is enough? There is only 1 LNB at outside but 2 cables coming in

Possible the dish has a quad lnb which has four outputs so upto four boxes can be ran off the dish at any time. A sky hd box uses 2 cables on for watching and one for recording etc...at the same time

A diplexor allows a terrestrial cable and a sat signal to be send down the one cable perhaps this is what you are getting mixed up with

Yeah, diplexor is what I try to meant (I am really bad with the terms). So a tv says : Freeview HD and Freesat HD digital tuner and Saorview digital tuner . So this one will be best fit for my current setup then, am I right?

Correct but you will need an aerial either internal or external for saorview depending on where you are....

In case it is not yet clear

For Saorview channels you need an aerial, which depending on your location, might be an internal one (strong signal location) or an external aerial for most locations.

For Free to Air Satellite channels you need a dish with LNB. Some LNBs have multiple connections.

With one cable from the LNB and a Satellite tuner you can watch all the FTA channels, but cannot record what is not being presently received.

TVs can come with one Saorview tuner.
Some can come with one Saorview tuner AND one Satellite tuner.
Your recording options with TVs are limited.

If you need recording on Satellite and/or Saorview channels then the best option is two tuners for either or both, depending on need.

Besides the initial outlay for the hardware, there is no cost involved unlike subscribing to Sky services.
