    Hi,

Bearing was gone on turbo for Mazda 3 2010 1.6 diesel - power was still fine but was making a whistling type noise.

Brought it to a main dealer for the turbo to be replaced and got the car back on Friday.

Since then, i'm noticing a very definite lack of power from the car. very noticeable in 3rd and 4th gears where there just seems to be no acceleration.

Any ideas as to what has happened?

Could be a boost leak, they mightn't have secured one of the hoses properly. Is there any whistling/whooshing noises now when accelerating?

    This is a good answer.

I'll admit, I'm slightly disappointed - I wanted the first answer to be a Ford/Volvo/Peugeot/Citroen/Mini/Suzuki driver saying "yerra all them Mazda diesels are muck";)

Not sure i hear any noise like that, not very noticeable anyway. Have dropped up to dealer who replaced it now so will see what they say

Is there any black smoke noticeable in the rear view mirror on acceleration? A boost leak would cause smoking. Did they put in a brand new turbo or was yours reconditioned?

Brand new turbo (or at least was supposed to be!). Haven't noticed any black smoke.

They need to check over pipe work anyways. Does it feel very sluggish? If they forgot to connect a small hose up to a MAP sensor it won't be putting in enough fuel when the turbo kicks in for example. A good going over should show up if there are issues.

Yeah, it's very sluggish alright. Have had no word from dealer yet as to what he has found.

Couple of sensors that could be acting up. Manifold pressure sensor or boost pressure sensor could be at fault.

Iirc there is a square ended ribbed pipe going into the manifold. These split and it is hard to see, maybe during removal or fitting it has split inside a rib. There are 2 variants. One has 1 sensor in it, the other has 2.

Dealer just rang - split in a pipe seems to have been the correct diagnosis!

Likely the one I mentioned. Very common without being disturbed. Cheap enough and they should have in stock.

If it's any of the others prepare for a wait and a raping. Some of them can be unexpectedly expensive.

Seems to be the one you mentioned as ready to be collected now.

    Thanks for the help everyone

Are you sure the Turbo was actually needed?

Collected the car yesterday evening - seemed much better and turbo seemed to be working.

Started car this morning and the check engine light stayed on...

Back to the dealer this morning to check out

According to dealer it was. Bearing was gone in it apparently

Dealer just rang - EGR valve stuck open according to him.

He's going to try to clean it but if that doesn't work then he's talking replacement.

Bearing in mind that i had zero problems with power/boost before he replaced the turbo (badly it seems!), is it possible that this issue is caused by the pipe issue after they installed the new one?
