Splitting heating and water and automation.

    Hi all,

Have posted this on the IOT forum although also relates to here.

System is a warmflow whitebird oil fired boiler heating both the water and radiators using a simple flash immermat timer, there are two pumps attached although not separatley controlled.

I am assuming, maybe wrongly, that I will be able to split this so that I either heat the radiators or the water therefore making this a 2 zone system?

Looking at changing the timer and adding thermostats and I know the Netatmo would allow me to still control this as is but would the Hive etc allow me to do what I want in splitting the two. Does the fact that it is two pumps and not two valves make a difference.

In my head this would seem a perfectly simple layout to achieve as I am only splitting the wiring to run the two pumps individually and therefore not wasting energy heating both at the same time.

What additional plumbing work would be required if any?

Would it be more advantages upgrading the boiler and all and if so what costs, roughly, am I looking at?

I have attached images is this helps clarify.

    In a 4 bedroom bunglow approx. 1900sqft.

If there is any other info required let me know?

Thanks for any help given smile.png

Depending on the pipework, with only one pump on you may still get heat on the other circuit, but in reverse ( reverse circulation).
I would opt for adding zone valves to both circuits with the pumps. This should then eliminate the potential of reverse circulation.
If all of your wiring is close to the pumps you should have it done at reasonable cost. But the difficulty would be hard wiring from your stat locations, unless you go wireless.

Thanks K.Flyer, good to know about the reverse circulation.

The wiring is only about 3 feet from the pump to the controls so no major work needed there to wire them up, straight up the wall when you look at the photo with the pumps in it.

Would probably look at the Hive system as this would eliminate the need to hard wire stats.
