Injured at work/sick pay

    Hi there.

I injured my foot at work at the end of September and have been on sick leave since then, stuck in one of those mobility boots. I've had a few X-rays done but the doctors can't see any broken bones and I'm due for a CT scan next week.

My issue is I'm on Statutory Sick Pay (approx £88 p/w), and unfortunately it doesn't cover my rent, let alone bills or even living basically. I know I am 'sick' so their hands are tied in that respect, but due to the fact it happened at work (a large marble utensil slipped from my grasp onto my foot) I am slightly disheartened at their lack of basic compassion for my situation.

I've worked for the company for more than 5 years now, and I was wondering if there is anything I can do?

    Thanks in advance,

    GM

You cut out in an insurance claim, what's the nature of the work? Could you work with a broken foot?

probably depends on whats in your contract of employment they certainly not obliged to pay you.

but reading your post again , i think you should be on injury benefit and not sick pay

I work as a food and beverage supervisor, so 8 hour shifts on my feet would kill me. I tried to do a shift last week to help out, but I had to go home after about 3/4 hours as my foot started to swell up.

Is it in a full cast? Get them to split it and wrap it, when your foot swells the cast won't cause pain.
Worked a treat for my leg

No, its not in a cast at all, but a mobility boot.

Yeah, they're definitely not obliged to pay me, my contract only states statutory sick pay in the event of illness or injury.

I will have a look into injury benefit, thank you.

Are you in the UK? You posted that you are getting 88 pounds sterling a week
