I had issue. at low revs or when car start driving I have black smoke like train. I replaced all boost houses (one was cracked) replaced EGR, replaced MAF meter, cleaned manifold, cleaned intercooler (was stream of oil). Yes a bit less smoke but still enough to make fog behind me.
One mechanic advised to put little petrol in tank and drive for a mile as seems to him cat converter clocked with carbon and engine sort of starving to breath. So I did that, drove at higher RPM, filled full tank of diesel and no more smoke at all, like literally at all.
So question. In all forums say never ever put petrol in diesel ( I took advice from veteran mechanic) and now car spinning like new, I can't even hear diesel pump (noise) when spraying to engine. Mechanic say it would be the same as to buy for 10E additive and 2E petrol. What you think about that?

Depends on the car. Old Fiestas for example would almost run on petrol.. Try in with a Fiat JTD or PSA HDI now and it could be a different story.

Put diesel into a jar, then petrol after. They don't actually mix very well, petrol starts to attack diesel... What you're left with is diesel that burns normally, with petrol that explodes uncontrolled, doing damage.

Also, petrol breaks down oil properties, meaning nothing on your 94 Transit, but attacking lubrication on a '12 Opel can result in pump/injectors wearing out. All it takes is one stroke where diesel wasn't present, petrol couldn't take the shear and metal to metal contact occurred. That "scar" will wear out over the years.

Tldr; Buy additives as they are designed with the maintenance of diesel lubrication in mind while still cleaning.

Can't see petrol doing much to clean your intercooler unless you take it off and rinse it through it!
