Hi lads, anyone recommend some courses in the Alicante region, going over for 4 nights / 3 rounds in December, mate has provisionally booked Lo Romero, La Finca & Las Colinas. Any thoughts on those and maybe some better options. Many thanks.

Las Colinas is a fantastic course. A level above most courses in the area. It's managed by Troon golf. Buggy comes with water and stroke saver. Great practice facilities close to the club house. The course itself is excellent with a nice mix of holes with generous enough fairways. Some nice driving holes with elevated tee boxes and there's water on a number of holes. The European tour qualifiers were held there recently. Green fees have increased over recent years. I played it three years ago at €60 including buggy. Quoted €102 for May next year.
La Finca is also a nice track. Some great holes. IIRC, I think there an island green on one of the par 5's. There's a par 4 built around a lake. Big hitters can go straight at the flag depending on which tees you are playing off!!!

I haven't played Lo Romero but it's on the list for next May. Let me know what you think of it.

    Enjoy.

Your friend knows his courses. They are 3 good courses. Los Collinas is the best in the area. Lo Romero is a very nice course. Finishes with an island green. Not much of a clubhouse but the course makes up for it.

La finca is v good, greens were sanded when I played it which was disappointing.

I like El Valle and Hacienda Riquelme which are nearby but I won't change your booking because they are on a par with la finca

Was over there two weeks ago, and was previously there two months ago. Los Collinas is top class, really nice, a step above everything else,
Played El Valle , Font De Lop , Hacienda Requielm , La Manga, Alicante Golf , also, - Alicante Golf was a real treat too, if you book it make sure you have sat nav turned on to find it. Overall standard of courses very good, a lot better value than Portugal..

Just back from the trip and the 3 courses worked out great. Weather was great for the time of year, so t-shirt & shorts for every game.

Lo Romero was really good and excellent value, only negative is it only has a couple of log cabins for Pro-Shop & Cafe but didn't diminish anything from a great course.

Las Colinas was not in top shape on the day we played, they had a lot of rain in the previous week and the fairways were iffy, bits of mud all over and made chipping tricky too, the resort is top class and on any other day I would say it would definitely be the best of the 3 we played as the layout is superb.

La Finca had brilliant greens and a nice layout, it was a little scruffy around the edges and certain parts but again another fine track.

Highly recommend it, couldn't fault the course, good mix of holes and nice test of golf, you will enjoy it.

I'm due to visit the Oliva area over the next couple of months. Anyone played the course there? Seve design but that may not mean anything. Any others in the area?

Good thread I'm looking for a place to go in January 2018 for a couple of rounds with a big group of lads. Just looking around for Info at the moment. Those 3 courses sound good. How much were the trips lads? rounds/acc etc

You'll probably get a package deal for a big group. Prices will vary for a DIY trip like we did and of course we had free accommodation. Green fees were €43, €63 (incl buggy) & €52 but obviously we played in December so I'm sure they will be higher in season. Flights were about €80 each plus €60 per pair of us for the golf bags, we shared, just brought a few less clubs each.

I'd reckon if you do have a large group, booking with a travel company would maybe be better as there is generally a decent bit of travelling involved to get to the courses and maybe having transfers organised could be handier.

If you need any other info just ask me or message me.

    Cheers

I'd agree with Woodgate's point about booking through an agent when you aren't familiar with the area.

I organised a group trip for 8 to Alicante for 3 years and it's a lot of work and you feel responsible for all. Finding accommodation, finding your way to courses etc.
We switched to Portugal and used an agent for a further 3 years and it's so much easier. You give them the dates and the pick the courses, teetimes and all the transfers. The agents know what deals there are like discounts on certain courses if you stay in a particular hotel and as a result it doesn't cost much more but it's stress free.

It might cost €20 a head more but it saves lots of hassle for the organiser.

Anyone ever played la ramblas? Have La finca villa Martin and last colinas booked but they came back to me with this as lo romero wasn't available.

I played las ramblas. It's very quirky with lots of blind shots. There is a big gorge running through it that features on a lot of holes and it'd hard to figure out distances and where you are going. We played a scramble on it and had good fun but I wouldn't like to be playing strokes on it.

Consider playing hacienda riquelme or El Valle, preferably instead.

Thanks for the feedback, I booked it this evening though. Gonna definitely buy a strokesaver now!

Las rambles has a lot of blind shots or very elevated tees can be tricky if you haven't played before
Real Club de golf campoamor is a nice track it's also next door to Las Colinas and Villa Martin also

Played there Thursday to yesterday. Villa Martin was OK and sound in the clubhouse as we were delayed on the flight over and missed our 2 o clock teetime. They let us out at 4 to play 9 and booked us in again for the back 9 Friday morning.
Played muck in Las ramblas but none of the 4 of us thought we played well. Definitely a course I'd like to play a few times just to know the lines.
Las Colinas stood out for me. Top class facilities and a great track. Definitely built for the holiday golfer but the greens were not the very best due to umpteen pitch marks. All properly repaired just slow to heal dunno why.
La Finca is the best test of golf of the 4 just not up to Las Colinas on facilities side. Greens were awesome and fast.

Golf with the sun on your back just cannot be beaten.
