Recommend me a blue diver

Only just realised I've had my Quondam (Davosa clone) for just over 4 years now. Very happy with it, apart from that it's black. My favourite colour for a watch is blue

My dream watch would be a Seamaster. Like this one:



At about €2600 this is far out of my budget

So what would you recommend? Must be automatic, must have crystal glass. Must be at least 40mm. I don't care about the strap, if it comes with steel, I'll probably replace it with leather, nylon or rubber

Budget: anything between €50 and €500 I suppose?

Or should I just not be silly spending hundreds on another watch, but save for another while until I can afford a Seamaster?

Love the Seiko. I'm a bit bewildered by all the Seiko numbers and nicknames and when I google the SKX009, I get a familiar looking one with a red and blue bezel that I find a bit tacky looking. Is that one above modified and who does that, or where can one buy the watch like that? Any links would be great!

Stock SKX009 with it's pepsi bezel and flat hardlex crystal.




Mine is modded with a 6mm Super dome from Dagaz, the height of the crystal means the standard bezel insert is no good because the sapphire would sit approx 2mm too high. An insert which is beveled comes with the crystal and this closes the gap. It also has a modded handset which matches the lume on the dial.

Unkel at 50-500 I reckon your best bet is something from Seiko. I was going to say squale but they have QC issues, and are over budget.

Consider Hamilton perhaps? The standard Khaki comes in a pretty blue. I have a couple and they seem pretty tough.

I'm sure someone will be along with a photo or link. Mobile app isn't playing nice for me today.

I didn't actually mod that one myself. I picked up the watch from a guy in the US who had the work done by a local watchmaker.

It's not a difficult mod and any local shop should be able to do the work reasonable. Also as far as I know it's possible to have the watch pre modded by Jake at Dagaz who sells the crystal.

If it was me I would pick up a pre owned 009 and just press the super dome crystal but I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it on another members watch. Maybe there is another member who would feel okay doing the work for you and save you some cash.

Thanks for the link. I just bought one off him. Too many nice watches discussed here and having dealt with HDMI in the past I would agree with his tastes so it was always going to happen. Now to count the days until it arrives.

There was one put up on eBay just now for £400 incl UK shipping. Located in the UK, so no bother with import duty / VAT etc. Just came across it by accident. That's as good a price as I've seen them, particularly given the low Sterling rate
