So I have a 04 cmax 1.6 diesel that has cost me an arm and a leg,and now more problems.
So starter motor went in it and apparently it was the worst my mechanic and auto Electrician had seen.
Got it replaced anyway but now it keeps popping up 'steering assist failure' as your driving but doesn't feel any different the steering bar the first time it popped it ,the power steering seemed to cut off but cut in a few seconds later.
When I stop the car and try start it again it won't start and comes up 'engine system fault' with the dash lighting up like a Xmas tree.
It will eventually start if I leave it for a few mins.
I'm thinking the starter had shorted out and maybe damaged the ecu? maybe an immobilizer problem?
Or something to do with the power steering?

Sell it to Google. They're spending a fortune trying to develop a car with its own mind!

With very little real information to go on, I'd be checking for a bad connection somewhere close to the battery, possibly on the fuse box or distribution system, as the description has all the hallmarks of a bad or loose connection somewhere on the first few connections as things start to split out from the main battery feed into the main high power fuses.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

The body control module, (fuse box panel) gives similar problems. Can't remember if it was a recall or not but we had plenty on the shelves.

    Sorry only replying now.
Checked all battery connections and fuses and all seems good.
This is a pic of what the dash looks like as I was driving.

And after I turn off and try turn on again.

    Fault codes I found p0120, u0121,u0155,c1994.
Although the past 2 days I've tried driving with the spare key and it hasn't happened again(touch wood)
Someone mentioned its a problem with the instrument cluster?

There was an issue on early focus binnacles. Not good news I'm afraid. Dealer only part. Start at €600 and go past a thousand. Binnacle has to come out for specific part number before order.

    Whats binnacles? The instrument cluster?
If its the cluster, could it be sent to be repaired?

Sorry. It is the cluster yes. Never heard of one being repaired. I work in a Ford dealership. We sold about 1 every couple weeks. Common enough. I always refered to an older colleague who had more knowledge but it was always a replacement unit. Call your local dealer parts dtpartment and they can tell you if your year is affected. I think it is but I worked multi franchise so have a little knowledge but I'm not 100%.
