Thoughts on a current Model Mondeo 1.6 TDCI 115PS

My current car is a 2003 Focus Estate needs to be changed as it is getting long in the tooth. Up until the last year it has been flawless but the timing belt and a number of sensors have given up the ghost since then.

Initially I was just going to go for a 2012 or 2013 Focus or Mondeo but given the poor choice available I am veering towards a nearly new Mondeo instead.

Have seen a few ex demo Mondeo's and been offered a few ok deals by dealers. I am wondering if there is anything I need to watch out for with them?

They're annoyingly slow when moving off, say coming into a roundabout. They're much better once you get up to speed.
Try and get one with parking sensors (think the Zetec+ has front and rear) as it's quite a long car.
New ones have a 7 year warranty. They're also discounting them heavily new.
They're incredibly quiet on the motorway, and the interior is in a different league to the older model.

The newer 1.5 TDCI was launched earlier this year in the Mondeo and is much better than the 1.6 it replaced. Failing that go for the 2.0 as the Mondeo is a big car. Titanium in Impact Blue with the apperance pack is the nicest combo imo.

Just to clarify, I'm talking about the 1.5 tdci. Think it's 120ps

Have you driven both bazz? I haven't tbh.

Mondeo is a big car and not light so I'm surprised that a small engine like that can make reasonable progress in real world traffic.

Its a completely dead car down low, so when your pulling away from a stop or might be in too high a gear the car is so sluggish.

Online reviews claim the 1.5 is supposed to perform better than the older 1.6, 120bhp v 115bhp. You'd hope the superseding engine would perform a little better otherwise what's the point in developing it. But as I said earlier the 2.0 litre would be my preferred choice in a car that size.

It's got a little bit of mid range but as said earlier in the thread there is no power down at the bottom of the rev range.
I've driven the detuned version in the ford vans and they haven't the same issue as there're much lighter.
