Drafty Double Glazed Window

Hey, just have a large bay window. It is about 250cm by 150cm. There is two radiators in the room but always seems cold. I only started to use the room so I put up curtains. When you walk in they are always about 1 ft out at the bottom from a draft coming from the window.

I am wondering how I would fix it? the window is double glazed so I would thought it would stop drafts this large.

I seen some companies now replace the glaze in the window but I wouldn't think this would resolve the issue?

    Any idea's?

Most obvious thing to check is the hinges. Once they get worn they don't pull the sash in tight when you close it.

    Next would be the seals.

Next check the wall around the window. You can sometimes get draughts coming in here.

Are there trickle vents on the window?

If your units were bad you would see misting in between the panes. This wouldn't give the issues you're describing though.

Go outside and try pushing/pulling the sashes at the hinge end. If there's any movement, get new hinges.

Run a bead of Tec7 around where the frame meets the wall on the outside.

Check the locks are pulling the sash in tight enough to the frame.

    Thanks for reply,

    There is no trickle vents.

There is no mist in between the windows. Need to check the hinges as I didn't think these would wear. That could be issue.

    Thanks

If the window is hard to open and close and it catches, then that's a sure sign something might be up.

I checked this morning, one side of window there is steel part on the actual window. Not the opening. This is what latch catch's onto and it is broken....

Very small fix. Thanks for help.....

Need to go around now and check all the windows :-)

Any recommendations to supply parts like that? I would guess woodies charge 30 euro or something stupid

They're not usually universal but you might get lucky.
Check the manufacturer name on the window espag lock. It would tell you what receiver you need. Also look for any writing on the pvc profile on the frame. It would tell you what make the windows are.

Ok I fixed the window, I took one of the parts from another window and stuck it on. Just to check if it was issue.

Still seems to be draft....I did see on one of the other windows they had installed this:

Would this be worth putting on?

Are you sure the draft is around the window and not under it ??

A lighted candle will tell you the source.
