Looking to get my mother a 'user friendly' combo Saorview/FreeSat box - I just got rid of UPC. Also need to get her a Saorview Ariel (Have a dish installed)

Has anyone any suggestions please ?

There's no such thing as a Saorview/Freesat box (it'll be FTA, not Freesat).

If its for a parent, I'd be tempted to go for a separate Freesat branded box, as they are the easiest to operate, and automatically do software updates, channel updates etc.

I prefer a combo STB which makes channel listing arrangement and switching channel much easier ..... one remote for one box.

Yes a few channels will change transponders several times a year but it is not difficult to edit the box to pick up the new frequencies.

I still have an old Fergusen Ariva 120 for this, but there are a few newer models available now.

If you are prepared to edit the box yourself or instruct someone else how to do so, it is a much better user experience than two separate boxes.

Is the current tv Saorview, if so a sat receiver could suit. The walker box is not perfect but we use them in work, going all day with very little trouble. I use a Saorview tv and a humax freesat box, one remote for both, auto updates, 7 day epg, red button.

She has both on the TV - but would not mind something a little more like the UPC box - might give the walker a go.

That Walker is only for Saorview though, no satellite tuner.

The more technically minded people posting here will advise of the pros and cons but essentially its something like this that you require

From reading the description it says that for 1 euro more you can get it pre-programmed for automatic updates but what those updates would be I have no idea, sorry.

Note: 320GB Internal Hard Drive Option
If Chosen, Deactivates Front USB Port & Card Reader

That is a huge loss IMO.
