The cross country race on Friday has been abandoned due to the firm ground:
    Cheltenham

As expected the Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase scheduled for Cheltenham on Friday has been abandoned due to firm going.

Plans had already been made to stage a substitute race and that will now take place, but in a different slot on the card because of the risk of low sun.

Instead of being run as the fourth race, the Glenfarclas Veterans' Handicap Chase will now open proceedings at 12.55pm and the Neptune Investment Management Hyde Novices' Hurdle will move down the order.

Clerk of the course Simon Claisse said: "We had more rain than anticipated, 18mm since 7pm.

"The chase and hurdles tracks are now good, good to soft in places.

"However, as anticipated it has hardly had an effect on the Cross Country track which is still firm, hard in places.

Click Here! "We have the other race ready to take its place but because of the risk of low sun that will now be run as the first race.

"That means the Neptune Novices' Hurdle will be run as the fourth, at 2.40pm.

"We will work with the BHA to rearrange the Cross Country race to one of our January meetings, and most likely it will be Festival Trials Day on January 28."

Silvergrove is interesting as a potential Aintree horse. He's top weight and fav for the 3m amateurs race, last on the card

Selections for tomorrow if they run are :

    12:55 Realt Mor (2pts win @ 7/2). Tentative selection
1:30 Johnny Og (2pts ew @ 14/1). A tracker horse for me after Cheltenham last year. Ran away at the front with its rider and won first time out this season over 2m3F. Solid each-way shout
2:05 Barters Hill (5pts win @ 13/8) Hope he runs , love the horse
    2:40 Spiritofthegame (2pts win @ 5/1) 2 from 2 so far.
3:15 Tudor City (2pts win @ 7/2) Form is misleading , has a P before its name but won on the flat last time out at Limerick I think.
3:50 Our Sox (2pts ew @ 15/2) Whilst I usually go for the jockey in this type of race I can't ignore a Tony Martin horse at the bottom of the handicap.
    Looking forward to it.

Barters Hill is obviously going to be well fancied to make a winning start over fences but Paulings other runner BALLY GILBERT 2.40 has been the one that has attracted the money. Opened 25s now 16s boyles but down to 12s in most other bookies. With the form he is currently in 4 wins from 7 ive had an ew nibble

Mount Mews beat him in April and he could be top notch.

Not a max few quid last night but don't think I'd be backing st that price but very much a winnable race

Our Sox ran a disgusting race last time out. Not at all surprising to see it out again in this sort of race.

I like Realt Mor in this opener. Never really fulfilled his obvious talent, but ran with a lot of zest at Down Royal last week and if jumping holds up here - if key word there - I expect could lead these veterans a merry dance.

    PairofBrownEyes in the 1.30.

See its in Barry Murphy's name now rather than Liz's.

Form behind Sublieutenant looks good and Coldeco has drifted alarmingly this morning.

    Story of my life Francie.

Mikey used to ride that horse for Mullins. Must have been sick watching it pass him.

Barters Hill pulled up, hope it's nothing major

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,023 ✭✭✭✭Joe_ Public

Didn't look to be limping or in any kind of distress so hopefully just extreme caution on the jockey's part.

Well done. Would of liked to see him and BH battle it out up the hill.

Barters Hill slipped a tendon off his hock. No idea how bad that is, judging by pundits reaction, it's not too bad

They're saying not career threatening but will more than likely miss the season anyway. I'm not sure but I don't think theres any treatment for such an injury, just long rest and recuperation. I think Aran Concerto had the same injury and never really came back.

Chasing debut not gone to plan. Hopefully this wont be the finish of him. Has such ability

    D'Rock 9-1 8.35

Have this marked as a winner, ran on well after it's three maiden races.
I think tonight is night it gets off mark. Has looked poor last 3 outings.

    2pts win 9-1

Never got a chance to compete with traffic.

    Mr Bernard 33-1 coral 9.05

4th last time out. All three that finished ahead of it have won or place since.

    1pts ew 33-1
