Ankle MRI Cappagh Hospital

    Hi,

I have to get a MRI scan of my ankle in Cappagh hospital. I've had a few MRI scans of my knee, and always went into the machine feet first with my head sticking out of the machine amd never had an issue. Does anybody know if this will be the same for the ankle MRI? I had a shoulder MRI scan earlier in the year and the first attempt didn't go well due to going into the machine head first and claustrophobia, so I had to go back a few weeks later and take a couple of Xanax to get through it.

    Thanks

The part of the body being scanned has to be in the centre of the MRI machine so I think your head will definitely be well outside for an ankle MRI.
Check with them when you make your appointment, I think one of the routine questions is about claustrophobia.
Recent hip MRI in one of the wide bore machines my head was just barely outside so I could look upwards and just about see the ceiling.... so reassuring!!

Just to update this in case anybody reads this in the future, only the bottom half of my body was in the machine :)
