Invalidity pension application

I have been on illness benefit for 12 months.

I am filling out the inv1 form now and I have a few questions

I was under the impression that invalidity pension was not means tested - why am I being asked to attach a statement for the last 6 months of my bank account
    And
Should I wait to be called for assessment and be issued with an inv2 form instead

    Hi
The bank statement/payslips etc will be needed if you are going to claim an increase for a spouse/partner and/or dependent children as a means test would apply in respect of them.
I'm not sure what you mean by Inv2 or assessment.
As you are already in receipt of illness benefit the dept. are aware of the nature of your illness/disability. However as IP is a considerable step up from IB I would always recommend that applicants send a detailed up to date report from a specialist spelling out how the medical profession advise that you are likely to be unfit for work for 12 months, together with a letter from yourself describing how your illness or injury prevents you from being available for work

    Thanks for that

I thought inv2 is the form the department doctor gives me after his assessment of my health. I assume I will be called for assessment again once the illness benefit expires.

I met the doctor after 6 months.

No it's not usual for the Dept to send IP applicants for an assessment but I can see how you might think that
It's up to you to send all the evidence of your inability to work with the application
If you are refused and Appeal you can ask for your appeal to be heard at an oral hearing

I have one more question in relation to invalidity pension and Prsi contributions.

If I apply in January I will not have paid tax for over 12 months (I have been on illness benefit). Does that mean I will fail on the prsi criteria and will only qualify for disability allowance?

"260 (5 years) paid PRSI contributions since entering social insurance
48 contributions paid or credited in the last complete tax year before the date of your claim"

I have 20 years PRSI contributions but have not worked/paid tax since Oct 2015

No you won't fail. If you've been on IB all this time then you've been getting a PRSI "credit " which is perfectly fine to meet your PRSI requirements for IP

    Hi

If you have been getting Illness Benefit for a period of 468 days, you will be medically assessed for continued entitlement to Illness Benefit and possible entitlement to Invalidity Pension. If, as a result of this assessment, it is considered that you may be entitled to Invalidity Pension, an application form (INV2) will be sent to you. On receipt of the completed application form, a Deciding Officer will examine the claim and determine eligibility for Invalidity Pension.

This does not preclude you from applying for Invalidity Pension in the normal way using application form INV1.

This is something you should ask your GP, as they're in the best position to advise considering their knowledge of your particular medical condition, & the likelihood of it continuing, improving or disimproving as well as it's impact on your ability to work.

Having said that, by what you say with regard to waiting another 6 months to be called for assessment, it looks as if your condition is long term, in which case you may as well apply now.
