    hi
    couple of questions please.

I want to put an insert gas fireplace in to this fireplace. I cannot ,as the shape of the metal (circular) is preventing it.

I cannot see screws holing this timber surround to the wall. What is the best way to remove this from the wall. Minimal damage...

secondly , If I can get it off the wall , will the metal part be capable of being removed?

If so , can you get a replacement metal sheet with the standard insert to replace the one that's there ?
Lastly , is it doable by a reasonable DIY er..... thks paddy

I can't see the photo.. But the timber surround will have four to six fittings holding it to the wall.. There probably just skimmed over.. A little bit of pushing and poking and they should show.

Thanks. I clicked on pic and it opened ...I hope it works ..as I also wonder about the metal part behind it that contains the fire opening ..is it a big job to remove and replace it

The metal insert is detachable from the fire surround. The screws holding the surround to the wall could of been plastered over so there is going to be a small amount of making good after you have the surround off.

If you can't locate the screws/brackets you could either try one of those metal finders to locate the brackets or put a crow bar under one end and carefully lift it a few mm to see if the screws/brackets reveal themselves.

I have recently fitted a bigger version of yours.
