    Hi,

We are about to dig out at last!! I have been phoning around for insurance quotes for our self build and I am amazed at some of the quotes I have received. Just looking for an idea of what people have paid lately for this? Also if anyone got a good price if they wouldn't mind sending me a PM with the company name you got it from?

    Many thanks

    Lollb

Try Arachas, Frost Insurance, Hooper Dolan & Campion Insurance

Self Build Insurance is expensive because of your exposure effectively as a novice building contractor, even if ALL your individual contractors have their own cover

    Hey OP

Self build house completed last year. Insurance was approx €2000 if I remember correctly and that was with one of those mentioned insurers

A course of construction policy would be approx (depends on exact location)

    €350 fire only.
    €470 fires, Storm and Flood.

Can't be 100% on this as certain areas are flood risks so insurers might not quote.

Will be submitting commencement notice at end of month. Clearing site in Feb and hope to start foundation blockwork around may. I know some ppl have said that you need to have cover before you start building or else they won't cover you. Does the site clearance constitute the build start or is it when you lay the first blocks.
Will be one off house in Galway 2,500 sq foot. Appreciate if anyone could PM me with companies they found to have best prices as need to shop around now.

Has to be green field site before they will cover you so site clearance means work is started and they wont cover you, I got 18months for €1250 Pm if you want company name

I think clearing a site would be ok - the wording I have is

    1. No building work has commenced.

Any of the companies I rang asked was it a green field site as they couldn't quote if it wasn't, companies may differ though

    They got back to me

Site cleared is fine - So if the site is cleared and no building work done yet - It's fine.

They wouldn't cover the site clearance at all on this policy - just the actual building work.
