Could anybody recommend somewhere to stay in Amsterdam over Christmas? I'm looking for something central, or maybe the suburbs if public transport is good and safe at night!
    Thanks

Just recently back, stayed in this place and found it pretty good - about 20 mins by tram (which runs outside the door) to city centre. It's beside a supermarket too, handy for the essentials

Generally I would avoid the immediate city centre as I think it's not that attractive at night. Anything in the Grachtengordel (three belts of canals around the city centre) or outside is more pleasant.

    Sorry that's not very specific.
