As above, I fitted my insert myself. Just took put the old fire out and popped it in. No shiney flu pipes or anything like that. Am I losing slot of heat from not having the flu? I was questioning it about a week ago, and the guy told me it was a fire hazard, due to soot falling in behind it. Just looking for a second opinion. Was he spoofing or telling the truth?

It should be flued and a liner installed.

Not being smart, but it seems incredibly reckless that you went ahead and just stuck a stove in an open fire without researching the proper procedure for installing it.

In my defense, my dad bought it for me and told me that I just got it myself. Don't have an alarm or vent either. I'll get yer man back to do the job so. Thanks.

OP, dont use the fire until properly installed. If you do then please get a CO2 alarm.
Depending on the install it could be an absolute death trap for you and anyone else in your house.
