Toyota Corolla/Nissan Primera or Skoda Octavia?

    Help please, I'm planning on buying a second hand car in January but would like to have my research done before that. I have a little corsa at the moment and whilst a great car it's too small for my family, I have a 6ft 1" son! I had kinda narrowed it down to the following but am open to suggestions

    1. Toyota Corolla 1.6
    2. Skoda Octavia 1.6
    3. Nissan Primera 1.4 to 1.6

    I've never had a diesel engine but am very open to it as I drive a round trip of over 40km a day for work.

    Important to me is
    1. Reliability , I know next to nothing about cars
    2. Tax no more than €550 to €600 a year, preferably less
    3. Space, especially back seat
    4. Budget up to €8000
    5. No earlier than a 2008 model

    Anybody care to give me their tuppence worth

    ford mondeo would be worth a look. very big car. 2008 you can get 1.6 petrol, after that you're looking at 1.8 and 2L diesels.

    I'd go for a skoda heaps of room in them

    The Primera is from the class above the Corolla and Octavia. The Primera was in the same class as the Mondeo and Avensis. Also by 2008 the Primera was discontinued by Nissan and the smallest engine was 1.6 litre.

    A 2003 to 2009 1.6 litre Avensis would offer more space than a Corolla.
