BMW 2011 f10 520d timing chain

    Hi

    Quick one - I have a November 2011 f10 520d with about 100,000kms on the clock.

Bought off BMW main dealer with 2 year warranty and serviced there within warranty, then with Indy afterwards.

Car runs perfect at the moment.

    - Is this car impacted by timing chain issue? Read that was meant to be solved after March 2011 but then some commenting it wasn't. What actually happened up to March 2011 did they make alternations to the design but wasn't enough. So does that mean my engine impacted but not as much of a chance as a pre Mar 11 one?

    - If impacted would I write to main dealer offering them opportunity to put it right, ie bring it into them and let them fix the issue FOC

    - If they refuse would I bring dealer to small claims court under supply of goods and services act stating car wasn't fit for purpose as known issue? Would I have to wait for chain to rattle or snap?

If chain did snap would I be in my rights to chase dealer legally? Mileage and Indy service record not relevant IMO if it was an original design fault and known about? Car wasn't fit for purpose.

You'll have to wait for something to go wrong.

No harm in writing to bmw and asking them if there is any recall etc program available
