So I stupidly installed some crappy software to try and record sound from streamed music. I know, asking for trouble.

Now I have deleted the program as best as I can, emptied the trash, and searched and searched for remaining crap from it but no matter what I do I can't seem to get rid of this from the sound menu.

In itself it is not really a drama but now when i connect to a tv by hdmi lead or by bluetooth to my speaker I have manually select them as an output whereas before it would do it automatically.

    Any ideas?

    Open Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup

Click on the Apower Audio Device, and click the minus sign to delete it.

It doesn't give me the option of clicking minus?

    OK, Try:
Go to Macintosh HD > System > Library > Extensions folder

Look for any mention of Apower.kext, move it to trash then reboot.

    Bugger.

It goes from applexsanscheme.kext to ATIRadeonx2000. There is an audioAUUC.kext just down the list?

No audioAUUC.kext is provided by Apple. No mention of Apowersoft?

Nothing, I went the whole way through the list in case it was hidden in another name

I downloaded the file and extracted it and the two kext's are Apowersoft_Audiodevice.kext and SystemSound.kext.

Have you maybe already removed it? Did you reboot after you deleted all the files?

Wow, thanks for going to such much trouble.

No sign of either of those. I wonder if i was to download it again and then re-delete it. I have done a reboot since delete and have upgraded to the latest version of os Sierra

That program does have an uninstall feature. Maybe re-install it then use the uninstaller to uninstall it?

    Re-install and uninstall worked.

    Thanks!

Try Audio Hi-Jack Pro for capturing audio from streams or any source on your Mac.
