Anyone use wallpaper to decorate their homes anymore??? or is it soooo 1970s????

Is it worth the effort? does it make any difference to the insulation?

I like a well chosen feature wall with nice wallpaper.
But it can date quickly and it's a pain to strip and replace. Painting is a safer bet as it's easy to go for a fresh colour.

It's 1970's looking if you use a 1970's style pattern. Styles have moved on a bit since then.

It makes shagall difference to the insulation.

    It's feckin expensive stuff though.

I'd only wallpaper if I was doing a feature wall or if I had very bad walls that weren't good enough to paint.

Wallpaper is for covering copies of Ann and Barry and Busy at Maths 3.

Why the hell would you put in on a wall!?

    Insulation? It's about 1 10th of a millimetre thick.

I put printing paper on mine, wallpaper is not very "vogue".

In my house I shared with my ex most of the rooms had an accent wall which we had wallpaper on. In fact, the next redecorating would have been some wallpaper on the wall going up the stairs.
I'm in the process of trying to sort a rose gold glitter paint to use that on an accent wall in my new house, and if I can't get what I'm looking for, I'll be putting wallpaper on it instead

Go to a wallpaper shop that still lets you take samples from different rolls and then join them all together in a magnificent mishmash of collaged beauty. It'll undoubtedly add significantly to the value of your property.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

All my rooms are painted. My neighbour has lovely wallpaper in her hall though. It's silver and glittery.

I remember as a kid just staring for ages at the patterns of the wallpaper in different rooms in our house!

Depends what energy rating you're aiming for. Woodchip might scrape you a B. But if you're going the Passivhaus route you'll need flocked wallpaper, you know, the one with the velvety bits?

    I believe Kingspan-Graham&Brown do one.

I did!! Never wallpapered before, looked at the Woodies DIY videos on how to, went off and bought the stuff , paniced a bit, opened a bottle of wine and looked at the video again and HEY pRESTO!! It loks fab! Started off small with a bathroom wall ( waited til sober to trim the bottom!) and it really changed the room. I amuse myself occasionally by changing the surround paint colour and it changes the look without having to bother redoing the wallpaper which Is teally funky! If you're in Dublin there's a shop opposite easons on Talbot Street that has a HUGE range - a thousand times bigger than B&Q ir Woodies DIY - definately go in there & have a look!

My top tip - didn't have a wallpapering table so I bought the paste directly onto the wall paste & it was super-easy - - no folding or carryingwallpaper around or creasing it or falling into it or mess!

No idea about the insulation but my Dad always hung wallpaper in our family home and hung sheets of thin cream wall paper to give an undercoat effect, & followed that with sheets of cut to length white insulation wallpaper - the same stuff that computers come packed in only in thin wallpaper rolls! My mother used insist on him doing it - I remember he was reluctant - and she swore it made a difference to the outer facing walls & walls with big windows and dripping condensation. I'm sure that place on Talbot St will stock it. You can also get more fancy foil based stuff but I havn't seen it in years!

Seize the day! Bit of planning & courage! The trendy thing now is to do only one 'feature' wall & have a colour on the rest of the room - stops it being 1970's!!!

( and whatever you do don't try start with the hall/stairs/landing or put up a border - it will look like a 1980's throwback disaster!!)
