new build insurance... sort of...

progressing with a new build at the min, work is being completed by a contractor so all is under their insurance at the mo, and it will be completed to an empty shell, so will have power on, heating commissioned plastering completed etc, but no finishes... kitchen, floor coverings, doors, architraves etc. Probably going to be this far around spring/summer next year.

Just wondering how I should go about insuring it when its handed over?, as far as I know you cannot insure an empty house (not lived in)?, and I have read that self build insurance is nearly impossible to get if the building has started? Will be competing most of the interior work ourselves (tiling, floor coverings, sourcing kitchens, bathrooms etc), but will be getting done outside a full time job so we have given to around this time next year (5-6 months) to have it ready to move into. So scratching my head as to what insurance we can get on it until we move in?, just wondering if anybody has dealt with this sort of situation before

Hi 4od, it is possible to insure an unoccupied house however cover may be restricted. My advice is to talk to your broker/brokers
