Bought car from dealer - no reg cert after 3 weeks

I bought a car from a dealer 3 weeks ago. They assured me that they posted the Reg Cert and I would get a new one in about a week. 3 weeks later, I still do not have it. I tried phoning them a week ago and was told they would look into it. A week later and still nothing, I phoned again but got no reply. They are over 2 hours drive away so it's difficult to meet them in person. I cannot tax it without the Reg Cert. If I am stopped at a checkpoint, I am not sure the Guards will believe my story. Any suggestions ? Thanks

Have you put reg into motortax site to see if a new vlc has been issued etc. Keep ringing them its up to them to sort.

The seller is the owner until ownership has changed and is actually liable for any penalties. You may be unfortunate if you receive a penalty between change of ownership and being able to tax the car. Did you receive a slip from the garage (not sure what it is called) to put in the window to inform any passing guard that the car is a recent purchase. I would say that most guards would be sympathetic to this situation and would not issue any penalty.

My understanding is ownership changes with the transfer of money.

Also, I haven't seen one of those slips for the window since the early 1990's.

OP, just hound him. Keep ringing every day asking has it been done.

Re-registration is the official change of ownership process. It should take less than a week unless there is a backlog in Shannon.
Yeah, I can't remember when I saw one of those slips last.
You can also ring Shannon to enquire about the car's ownership status.

Thanks, I tried that and it says that a new VLC was issued on Nov 3rd, which was only last Thurs, so I would expect it today or tomorrow.
Maybe they were just backlogged in Shannon.

You can call your local motor tax office to check if it's transferred.
If it is, the vlc is probably lost.
You will need an RF134 to get a replacement. Needs to be stamped by AGS.
It may lost or have insufficient address details.
First port of call is the mto.
    If in Dublin call 2228000

Op you can now tax the car. Go online enter reg. And request pin. You may find the pin is last 6 digits of chassis number.

    Not if it's a 2nd hand car

Sorry forgot to add that but new owner can still request pin on site.

    Easy done.

    Pin retrieval doesn't always work.

Once the car has changed ownership with Shandon you can tax it but you need the last 4 digits of the ownership cert issue no.i think you can ask the mto for this, then tax it online.i would expect to need a replacement cert if you don't receive it soon.

Last 6 digits but you need the log book for this!
