Have a look at nzxt s340. Similar case nicer to work with. Cheaper. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00NGMIBUU/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1478512946&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX280_SY350_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=nzxt+s340&dpPl=1&dpID=4198JZb5dOL&ref=plSrch#

I'd start with 8 gigs of ram. Again save more money. No real need for 16 gaming.can pick up more later on its an easy installation.

    Psu https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01C3FFLZ8/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1478512479&sr=8-12&pi=AC_SX280_SY350_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=modular+psu#

As for your question about the gpu. Me personally I'd go with the 1070. But it is slightly overkill. Imo it is more for 1440p. That said. you have the budget.I believe some here have said they were happier having it at 1080p 144hz gaming.

Cheers for the reply Sterling. You've definitely sold me on the case. :)

Regarding the PSU, is it better than the one I picked because it's semi modular?

Do you (or anyone else) know if the 1060 I listed can handle 1080p at 144Hz? I know I have the budget for the 1070 but if I can put that money to buying games all the better.

I'm going to chime in here and say that a 1070 isn't overkill for 1080p. A Titan XP is also not overkill for 1080p.

People always say this "the X80 is overkill for 1080p, go for the X60 instead and you'll be fine" If that were the case I'd still be running a 580.

As for your build, it's really very good. Something to consider would be this 1070, which is slightly more expensive, but from reviews it's the quietest out there (which for me is important, YMMV)

As for the CPU cooler, it'll do the job, though it'll sound like a hair dryer doing it. The Hyper 212 Evo is the standard recommendation for a cheap, good value solution. I went nuts and stuck an NH-D15 on mine.

Ah here, if someone bought a Titan XP for 1080P gaming there is something seriously wrong with them in the head or just stupidly loaded with tonnes of cash.

Thanks Serephucus. I'll stick with the 1070 so.

With the money saved by changing case I'll get this CPU fan:
Cooler Master Hyper 212X CPU Cooler

Do you know if the version of Windows 10 I've picked from Amazon is the best deal?

It's currently overkill then, it's more cost efficient to get something which handles 1080p fine now and in two years get something that also handles 1080p fine. I don't think anyone here is trying to imply that a 1060 will last until 1080p is gone the way of the CRT. Likewise no one meant that when they said the same about the 970, or the 770.

Just a reply to the point in general, at 144hz I'd get the 1070

A GTX1070 would be overkill/poor value for money for 1080p 60hz, but for 1080p 144hz it's a good buy (though you won't hit near that no matter what card you use with an i5 in most games). You'll probably be looking at 70-100fps at 1080p ultra in most titles, depends on the game of course. Fallout 4 runs best at 60, acts funny at higher framerates.

That's interesting. Would I be better off just going for a 1060 and 60Hz then? Or is it just Fallout 4 that has that problem?

Soz for late reply yes the other psu would be nicer to build with being modular.

The 1060 question. I'd go 1070. I'd be aiming for 1440p. Perhaps you don't know but 1440p is sweet.

Thanks Sterling. I went with the modular PSU and 1070 in the end.

    This was the final build:

Thanks to you and everyone else in the thread that helped out. :)
