'Ello folks,

It's time to order a new gaming rig - based on some reviews (and one of the premade setups [Noctis Goliath V3]), I mashed the two together to see what would come out.

I was originally going to head for the XTitan GFX card but judging by a few things I've read, OC'd GTX 1080's supposedly are on par (maybe better?) and cheaper. Here's the rig, would be curious to see what you think. Ultimate goal is top-notch gaming performance and staying power (few years at the very least) without lacking in CPU taxing tasks such as video compression et al (space is a no brainer, need recording space). I work in games, so this computer will be work AND play (ie. it'll be active/turned on practically all day every day, so heating and maintaining fans is a concern as always).

I think it's overkill. Glorious PC Master Race overkill. What monitor are you pairing this with? It's best suited to 4k, or 1440p 144Hz.

The difference between yours and that are actually minimal. You'd have to look at benchmarks, and even then, with a microscope.

Put some serious consideration into your monitor. 60Hz 1080p TN Panel is completely wasted on something like this.

IF you're genuinely considering dual GTX1080's (and I wouldn't, dual cards are a waste and cause serious headaches, have to frequently be manually disabled/enabled depending on the game) you should definitely be considering either 1080p 144hz or 1440p 60/144.

Even a single GTX1080 would be radical overkill on your existing monitor and would represent really poor value for money. The sweet spot at the moment for someone with a generous budget is 1440p 144hz with a GTX1080 and an i7-6700K processor. It's what I have and Battlefield 1 is running at 80-140fps at 1440p ultra settings.

Anything beyond that and you get extremely poor return for investment from a games perspective - paying hundreds to a thousand euro more for a few percentage difference in performance.

Six core would help if you're doing fairly heavy and frequent video work but up to you as to if it's worth it. I wouldn't take the approach of flinging money on the build because you get incredibly poor value for money that way - better spend it on an optimal enthusiast build (i7-6700k, 32gb, GTX1080) and then splash the cash on an excellent monitor, keyboard and mouse, speakers, headphones, xbox one controller plus dongle - whatever!

Yes, that's much better rounded. X99 platform and 6850K is very expensive, again despite costing over double the 6700K and Z170 it won't offer any benefits in games really, so just to be sure that you're not buying it from that perspective. For certain video editing and rendering apps, yes it will be somewhat faster, but the 6700K is an excellent all-rounder and half the price, you would save hundreds of euro and see no difference in games.

The PSU is grand for that setup.
