Suffolk ewes (as black as I can get them)and texel ewes (speckled of suffilolk sheep) . we have a texel and charrollais ram for the black head sheep and a Suffolk for texel x's. . the lambs of these sheep are really terminal but can still be sold as replacements except for the charrollais .they're lovely to work with and look at and are good mothers for the most part

1.7 this year. Its only 100ish ewes so lose very little through poor management and the ram isn't taken out till they are housed

Fair play, black ewes would be my idea of hell TBH but if it works for you that's the job.

Mules, Lleyns and lleyn cross ewes here. Only terminal sire used is Charollais, then Lleyns and couple of Logie this year to breed replacements

Not really once they are export eligible, then just transport and DVO visit. I ve brought in sheep before for pedigrees so just used that route.

Ya its good. It got broke a year ago and 1 stake and all the wire was in pieces. We couldn't just tie it back so we got a 500m roll of wire divided it in 4 and reeled it backi think we are going to use it for temporary divisions next for when we subdivide fields. Those pictures were taken in September by the way.

Do you need a cert with them to show they are eligible for export? What conditions need to be satisfied to take them in? Always tempted to go to Scotland for a ram or 2 but never have got round to it..maybe next year!

Have you any snaps of your rams? Your ewes are powerful along with your grass management as mentioned above!

They need to be from a MV accredited flock I believe, bo tested and scrapie tested or from monitored flock. Good bit of paper work required so better off buying direct from someone who does it regularly or through a society.

We're new to the game and so had a blank canvas.

Dealing with small numbers, and having a general interest in developing our own flock, meant aiming for a decent maternal base first before worrying too much about terminal sires.

Bought Belclare-Texel ewe lambs and joined them to a Llyen ram. The plan is that these will be the nucleus of the flock.

Depends on how lambing goes, but we'll probably go with another Llyen sire next year to build numbers of ewes. Might think about a Texel sire for 2018, if we're all still above ground at that stage!

I hope they are anyway! In fairness, my brother claimed they were the happiest looking animals you could have in a place. I'm on the phone here now but will try to post a few pics when I'm on the laptop tomorrow

The Suffolk ram. Not a typical Suffolk type but crosses well with the texel ewes. One problem however, he's awful wicked
    401932.jpg

Charrollais hoggett got lame during breeding so he lost a good bit of condition

Lambing went well very impressed, were due in today for first dose, bolus & clik but weather knocked that on the head. I think slightly behind the Charollais cross lambs but would expect that, some pics below

Suffolk cross with cheviot mainly...why because we always did plus Suffolk ewes are good milkers. Gona try to introduce belclare when i get money to buy a ram!
