There is a 4 mile race coming up that I was thinking of doing. The flyer says that its based on handicap timing system. What exactly does that mean? Is it like a chip time versus race time thing?

Usually it means you are asked to give a predicted finishing time before the race starts. Then the slowest people go off first and everyone else starts usually at 1 minute intervals until the fastest people go. The ens result is everyone usually finishes around the same time (in theory).

What usually happens is some eejit gives a really slow time so he can going first and then blasts the course to cross the line first and "win".
