VW Golf MK5 door stuck

I had problems recently with my 2007 MK5 Golf passenger door not opening intermittently. I had the lock changed a month ago but it has not resolved the problem and the door has been stuck for the last few weeks.

I can hear the passenger door click when I hit the unlock on my keyfob so I would have thought that the signal was been sent to release the door.

Given that the door now has a new lock is it likely there is an electronic problem ?

I had that problem too the mechanism was failing to lock or unlock .I just replaced the unit and gave no hassle after that . So you had the mechanism changed ? And did it work at all after you changed it ? Can you hear the unit clicking ? With mine it was slow like it was sticky etc . If the new one seems to firing properly sounds like it hasn't been put in correctly

You will have to take the door skin off to look at what is going on but you will need to get the door open first I'm told there's a certain sequence you follow to get the door to open

I thought it was fixed at first but then it started sticking again. My mechanic had warned me after changing it that it was still not perfect and he thought it might be a sign of some faulty control unit .

When I click the unlock on the keyfob now it sounds the same as before I changed it and I can hear a sound at each door but passenger door
    fails to open.

What exactly was the part you had replaced?

It needed a new door lock control module.

The quickest way to open that door would be to try this:
Unlock car with the fob as normal.
Then press hard on the thumb cap part of the door handle. This is the part where the key would go in if it wasn't blank.
Press with the base of your thumb, might take a good hard push!
You should then hear the rest of the unlock click and door will be open.
As for the problem, I couldn't be sure but perhaps the lock unit is not sitting correctly or else it's a dud.

I had this problem in a 2 door.
Tis a bastard if its stuck closed
If your anyways handy its not to bad to get the door skin off and take a look at whats going on.

If you think of the lock like one of those staple guns.
once you shoot a staple you cant shoot again until the handle goes all the way up and the mech is reset.
whats happening to the lock is it isnt returning to its reset position.

you sure the lad actually replaced the lock?
    they are cheap .

Once you get the door open yourself take the black trim off the inside edge (in the door jam area)
there is a torex screw right at the height of the lock that you need to undo.(might have a sticker over it)
that will allow the thumb cover to come off.
once the cover is off it'll still get stuck but you can poke it with a scew driver and it'll reset until you can get it fixed.

I had the skin off the door 3/4 times...............pain in the swiss

Do what I done or what I was advised to do by a vw store man . He told me it was accessible from the inside . I was able to access some of the mounting screws then realised this wouldn't work . Mr Google came in handy then. Pure raging I was. I never seen as many screws in all life .

A big pain in the Swiss :)

I replaced one of the Passat, put in an ebay one, went in a few months. Whole job had to be done again. The VW one is on it 5 years I guess without issue.
Awful job getting the door open, I worked the lock unlock while punching kicking the foor.
Eventually got it by pushing up against the door on the outside, beayting it with a rubber mallet and pulling on door handle at the same time. This had to be done for a long time.... enbarrassing enough as I imagine it looked like I was either trying to fight or f*ck the car!

CCM comfort control module went in it as well, all the windows stgopped working. They fail different ways... usually damp.
BTW the wires go in the door as well... and sometimes in the CCM, which in the passat is under the carpet. Kinda dumb s carpets get wet with rain spilled liquids and carpet cleaning.

I have had the same problem with an Audi door lock and the way I resolved it was push hard in against the door and thump around the lock until you hear the dead lock pin drop, the problem is caused by water getting on to the grease in the lock mechanism making it gooey and preventing the dead lock pin from releasing, with mine I had to remove the complete door lock assembly and wash it with kerosene and spray some chain grease on it, no issues since
