social housing

A new estate is opening soon. it is a joint operation between 2 counties and some houses are allocated to one and the other counties. the rest are being sold off privately.

Question: What amenities will be found in a social house?

    Cooker? flooring? built-in furniture/kitchen?

Did you move into a social housing for the first time? what was inside when you moved in?

If its a new build you will have a

Kitchen with sink (No Appliances such as cooker, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine)

No flooring in any room except some lino in the kitchen & bathroom. (Bare concrete downstairs, Bare wood upstairs)

Bathroom. (Tiled around bath only and small splashback at sink, Showerhead attached to bath Tap no electrics for electric shower)

    Basically it's a shell

Looked in a few windows when they were building close by :D

That's exactly how it will be.

OP, where js this "joint estate"?

A very curious development bug welcome all the same.

The lucky ones who will be allocated these houses but are entirely reliant on SW financially will be able to apply to their local CWO for an ENP (essential needs payment).
This is essentially a grant towards white goods flooring beds and suite of furniture but interestingly no kitchen table and chairs
Needless to say it only covers pretty basic items, no American fridges!
There used to be a separate Grant from the local authority to cover the cost of paint (but not a painter) but I think that may be gone now.
It's important to say here that all local authority tenants are means tested and the rent is set quite low, but this is because apart fro structural stuff, the local authorities no longer take any responsibility for upkeep and maintenance of the houses.
This is a source of much huffing and puffing by some tenants aided and abetted by some left wing councillors but it's seems pretty fair to me

The houses were originally for private but building stopped in 2008. The shells were open to the elements for 10 years and were raided by many locals for new doors, kitchen units ect etc. €50000ish per house was put back in and houses were brought up to 2016 EU Standards. also I think the houses 2,3,4,5 bed houses are somewhat bigger than your normal social housing

will there be no cookers for social houses?

It's an unfinished house in every sense. You get no cookers, no ovens, no fridges, no tables/chairs, no beds or matress, if you have floors in the house you're lucky. You'll get sinks, toilets, hot tanks and light fixtures but not bulbs. It's the same as building your own house

Actually it will depend to what standards they will be finished ,they could well come with white goods and decent floorings

Council houses do not come with white goods or floors. If you are entitled to it, you will get a grant to go towards these.

I've been in several lately finished by developers that came fitted .
It's likely down to who finished them and if they were previously occupied .
I know it's not the norm but it happens

To add to what was said above, it usually means the cheap stuff as well.
