Starlings in attic

I seem to have starlings in my attic and if I sit outside for a while I can see them coming and going from under the roof slates. There is also bird droppings an a section of gutter.

I'm not too bothered as I'd be happy if the noises I was hearing during the day were birds rather than rodents.

Can anyone please tell me when I can expect them to move on or do I need to intervene?

    Thread moved from A+PI.
Please note that a different charter applies now.
    Thanks.

You really need to intervene as, of all birds, they will turn it into an avian tenement in no time. You will also find you will get a lot of droppings around the area (especially if there is a washing line there!). Its kinda cute to have them living under your roof for a little while, but this soon wears off! We had to get a grid fixed under the edge of the roof to keep them out.

They continued to come looking for access for the following 3 years or so, and we could see them fly to the corner of the roof, then fly off and adopt a neighbour's chimney instead...

House Sparrows nesting under the tiles I love, but Starlings are a different matter. They will get into the attic space. Dropping's will smell in the attic. Some will die the attic and leave a stink. They will enlarge the entrance hole etc etc etc.

They really shouldn't be there at this time of year but get the point of entry sorted out as soon as possible.

Can anyone suggest how I can get rid of them?

My house has two sections of roof. I can see starlings coming and going from under a section of tiles on the roof over the two-storey part of the house.

Where I'm hearing noises is under another section of roof which is like a lean-to over a single-storey at the side of the house. I can't access this attic area without cutting through the ceiling or taking off roof tiles outside.

This section of roof has a gutter running along the side which has a lot of bird droppings on it. This is why I think it's also starlings I'm hearing in this area. I've only ever heard them during the day and everything went quiet after I played a bird-of-prey soundtrack I found on YouTube a few days ago until about an hour ago.

Not so much get them out as keep them out.

Maybe built a trapdoor as used on pigeon lofts - one way gate but yours will only open out!
