Anyone any info on these virtual races that are all over social media? I have a running friend who is mad about medals and has been signing up to run some distance, sent a pic of it on his phone and some money and they send him a medal. I don't get it really and I'm afraid it's a scam. Anyone any experience of these...I hate to see someone getting taken advantage of.

AFAIK they're not a scam, a way to gather medals. Personally I think it's ridiculous but each to their own. One site I have heard of is bling bandits.

Thanks for that. I really really don't get it. It's a medal for a training run...

Be the envy of all your friends :D:D
    Buy The Bling!!!!!

Your friend should find local races(club races if possible), that give medals, at least there is more of a social aspect to it.
I just hate the thoughts of someone taking money of people like this for "virtually" doing nothing :)

Honestly though, as long as they're happy out running it's up to them really :)

I know. Thanks for that. Something about it doesn't sit right though... but as you say each to their own.

If there's a market someone will fill it. The magic of capitalism. :)

I'll be honest I did one of the Bling Bandit things once. What you do is run or "race" in your own time a 10K, that a screen shot of your garmin, strava etc and send to them with payment and they send you back a medal. The one time I did it the time was actually from a race I did but that didn't have a medal. But after that I didn't see the point in applying for some medal just for a 10k run. Maybe if you were more disciplined and actually raced a run but IMO I couldn't properly race if it was just me, myself & I! I just wouldn't feel like I've "earned" a medal.

I've got a load of random medals from when I was younger, if anyone wants to pay me to take them away just let me know. Just let me know what your race was and pay me and I'll tell you where you finished, (i'm lacking in gold medals though, lots of silver and bronze)
