Small automatic?

    Hi all,

Both myself and my fiance both have automatic-only licences and we need a second car. Our first car was recommended to us by your good selves (an 05 Prius), but we need another car as we both work in different parts of Dublin with no public transport.

Budget is €1500 max, up to 1.4 but ideally around 1.2. I'm thinking of a Corsa C as we had one and it was great, but I'm open to other suggestions. It'll probably be used for 40km round trips on the motorway and some urban stuff.

    Thanks!

Yaris 1.3 is a surprisingly nice little driver and reliable. Or a k11 micra but they're getting a bit old (but nothing wrong with them)
Ps. read post again, try get a Yaris. The micra auto is geared a little low for everyday motorway use.

I wouldn't buy an automatic corsa

Yaris is good but auto is rare and your budget will only get an older one which may be an insurance nightmare

Most of the cars in your budget are going to be more than 10 years old so getting insurance could be your challenge.

George Cosgrove, on Dorset street, deals a lot in what you're looking for. Small automatic cars, a lot of Micras.

    Thanks!

I would only consider Corolla 1.6 and Jazz... But they all are more powerful and probably more expensive than what you want to spent...

Plenty of jap auto cars like what you are after vitz = yaris
    fit = jazz
    Insurance is the killer though

Just as an alternative you should look into getting an auto "classic" as a second car. You have your normal car with your wife named on it so you could get classic insurance in your name with your wife also named on it on lets say an auto c180 mercedes (has to be over 20 years old)

Thanks all, some good ideas there. Pity about the Yaris insurance, it'd be my go to after the Corsa, but yes, the Corsa isn't the most reliable car in the world, although we had no issues with ours except for the water pump and wet footwells. That said, I know exactly what to look for in a Corsa now.

Doesn't a classic car have mileage and 'everyday use' limitations?

Milage up to 6k is on offer maybe more with certain companies. Likewise usage terms can differ from company to company. Its a worthwhile option to explore as an auto car like a merc or bmw will be much comfier on a motorway than the smaller auto cars.

Also id assume the bulk of ye're milage would be done in the prius.

Mightnt suit ya at all but you could have a nice car for sub 1k and insurance for sub 500 so like i said its worthwhile exploring
