    It's a mouse!

It's winter time, why on earth would there be rats breeding at this time of the year? It's 100% mouse.

I caught a few mice lately in the shed
The tails were very long. I thought they were rats at first.

Em, you do know rats have no breeding season. They can breed any time of the year if conditions are right.

I just Googled "dead mouse" and it's actually very hard to tell, I did think from the tail it was 100% a rat but now I am unsure.

"If conditions are right", it's wintertime and conditions are too cold. In captivity maybe, but not in the wild.

Too cold outdoors maybe, but in a turf shed, attic etc, with an ample food supply, rats will breed. I caught an adult, and seven young rats in my niece's appartment attic, couple of years back. It was around Xmas. The whole appartment block had problems with rats, and she ended up moving out after Xmas, because there was nothing done about it.
