Oil fired heating issue

    Hi

My heating has began to give problems over the last week. First the hot water would not heat then the upstairs rads and finally the downstairs rads today. The system is kero with an indoor firebird.

The boiler is working fine and the water is hot to the pump and cold on the outlet. I have removed the drain plug on the pump and checked if it is spinning which it is. I am still thinking its the pump and plan to change it myself however its doesn't seem to have valves i can close of either side of the pump? They do have a screw which will take a Flathead screwdriver is anyone familiar with this type of valve?

    Thanks

I know those valves. They usually leak when used.

It may not be the pump. You might work out cheaper to get someone in.

Sounds like a lack of water. Open or closed system?

    Hi Wearb

Closed. I cant see any leaks and there is no air in the system when i bleed the valve in the hot press.

    What is pressure gauge reading?

Are you getting water out of the upstairs rads ?

    1.5
i bleed them before the heating completely gave up and they were full of air but no water. The ones downstairs no air dripping straight away.

Does the gauge change after bleeding ?
Do you top up after bleeding ?

    Might be gunked up.
I wouldn't try topping up if gauge isn't working.

There is usually a way to top up in the hot press or beside the boiler.

Pic of hot press might help.

Is the pump running, it may be stuck, you can free it by removing the large screw in the centre of the motor and inserting a screwdriver into the slot in the spindle to give it a start.

When it's just over 1 bar.

You don't seem to have a working gauge so you need to get that setup sorted out. No knowing where or how much of a blockage or maybe just a broken gauge. Expansion vessel may need attention also.

sorry my mistake the red was at 1.5 black was 0 filled it up to between 1 and 1.25 and have bleed the radiators. The heat was on before i did the above and the outlet pipe is very hot but the boiler has not kicked in again yet.

pump is running opened the bleed nut and its spinning inside with cold water dripping out . boiler is on but not running the pipe running beside the one with the gauge is super hot.

    Boiler is not locked out

depending on what boiler you have it may have tripped its high limit stat and doesnt have a manual reset you may have to wait a while for the boiler content to circulate and cool
