I want to move a couple of sockets which are currently on skirting boards higher up the wall, but I don't want surface mounted boxes, just the actual socket.

What's the best way of "digging the hole" that the box goes into?

SDS Drill and drill lots of little holes, the knock what's remaining out with a hammer and chisel (Or SDS Chisel). A small angle grinder will do a good job on these too but will create lots of dust. Loads of you tube videos.

Once you've screwed the backing box in place use some sand and cement around it + fillter to make the wall good again.

I did this as described above. 115mm angle grinder to chase for the cable, SDS drill mulitple holes, and chisels head to break out. Insert plastic conduit for the cable, fix in place and backfill.

If ever there was an argument that having the tools is half the job, then this is it. Great demo.

watched a guy use one of these, when i asked him about it he said it was ok in very fresh blocks but in old/aged blocks or concrete it wasnt good, he generally cut them with a grinder/wall chaser and cleaned them out with the kango
