Question on licence renewal

I am renewing my license as my 1st one is to expire next month. I've read that if you are doing so for a 3rd time, you need proof of an upcoming test.

Do I need anything like that if it's only the first renewal?

    Thanks.

No don't need that for your 2nd permit.

For the third one you do need proof of having applied for the test.
For the third one they will only give you a one year license.
For the second one you are fine that way

This is true, unless you have failed a test two years prior to applying for a third or subsequent permit, in which case they'll give you another 2 year permit :)
