Drink driving

    Hi guys!!!

    I'm new in boards.ie

    Few days ago i did something terribly stupid that I will always regret ((

    I had few shots of tequila, then sat into my car and drove, but not long time after i was stopped by Garda that was following me from behind (as they did know that i was drunk) !!!

    They brought me to nearest police station and conducted test for presence an alcohol in my breath.

    They told me that i was "twice over the limit", but never gave me a copy of reading of that breathalyser machine!

    Nevertheless I was arrested and accused for driving motor propelled vehicle being under the influence of alcohol for which I'll be brought into the District Court in three weeks from now!!

    I've made some research about consequences of my wicked deed and I'm aware that I'll get 2 years ban for driving and will have to surrender my driving licence for that long time, although that was my first ever time (and the last one for sure) for doing this stupidity!

    My questions are;

    1) Should i get any solicitor to help me get through the court process (if YES please advise me how much money usually have to spend to hire one and where to find one? )

    2) Will I have to surrender my driving licence straight after my case is lost at the day in court, or it takes few days to do so?

    3) Shouldn't I be given a copy of the reading that contains details about quantity of alcohol i had in my breath?
    -here i let myself to quote EXACTLY a fragment of prosecution letter that I've signed and got a copy for myself ;

    "...while there was present in your body a quantity of alcohol such that, within 3 hours after so driving, the concentration of alcohol in your breath did exceed a concentration of 22 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, to wit 50 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath "

    ..but this is not a reading from breathalyser machine, it's just form of a prosecution to let me know what happened and what is going to happen now to me!!!

    I still don't know exactly how many microgrammes of alcohol i had in my breath

    Please help me to clarify what should i do now!!!

    Many Thanks folks!

    Yes yu need a solicitor if you want to minimise the penalty. Yes you should bring your licence to court but your solicitor may be able to delay the ban. Yes you should have been given a copy of the printout and signed both copies. If you didn't then raise it with your solicitor.
