First all thank you for taking the time to open this thread.

    Now;
    I have a part the job €900 a month
I have aspergers but my wife has all the documents and there's no way of retrieving them - I have not registered with Ireland for any disability yet
    I'm living from my car
I have ZERO idea about how I go about pretty much anuthing as my wife used to deal with finance and benefits owing to my condition
    I'm based in Waterford

Where do I start rebuilding my life? Who can I go to first?

    Many thanks

I can't help much, but perhaps you could pop in to your local Citizens Information office and ask their advice: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/

I wish you the best of luck.

Sorry to hear about your situation.

I would advise you to contact the department of social protection or citizens advice (who will advise you of your rights). Explain your situation to them and apply for disability benefit also. Can you contact the organisation who assessed you?

    I hope you get sorted.

Hi, sorry to hear of your situation. Have you been looking for house shares (not ideal, but cheap) or apts at all?

I have a friend with a similar condition, and he got an advocate to help him with forms etc when applying for various benefits. An advocate may help expedite your claim. Have you a CPN or person you see regularly in relation to your condition?

Disability Allowance takes a while to be processed and approved. On DA you are allowed work part time as long as it is condusive to your recovery, to paraphrase the DSP. I know you can earn up to 160e pw, you can earn more but you lose a percentage of your DA.

There is a housing payment called HAP, and another called Rent Allowance. Some areas have not brought in HAP yet, so maybe you could call to your local CWO (Community Welfare Officer- although I think they may be known as some other 'title' now', anyway, depending on your (old) address the one you would visit is listed if you google " Community welfare Offices Waterford" as the first result- I cannot post links as I am a new user.

You really need to sit down with someone and discuss your accomodation needs, living in a car in November must be awful- physically and mentally. Waterford Council and homeless services can be found by googling 'Waterford city and county homeless service'- 1st result. This is not only 'hostels' bt also links to housing groups , vol ordinations and financial aid, according to the site.

The sooner you get registered on the system for payment and housing, the better.
You asked who to go to first- I would say the Community Welfare officer, and on Monday morning ring your health team to see what supports they can offer you and see if you can see a support worker/ CpN/ Dr etc to explain how lost you are with this whole thing.
To receive Disability you need letters from your Consultant and 'pass' a medical. The squeakiest wheel gets the most grease. If you can get the likes of a CPN to liase with the Dept of Social Protection and the housing services for you, it would be to your advantage.
I wish you the very best of luck.

Thank you very much, with your advise I've managed to get in to a hostel, much better than the car!!! Sorry for the late reply, getting a charge on the phone was quite difficult!
