Peugeot 208

    Hi all,

After many years, my trusty Citroen is on its way out. Looking at a Peugeot 208 as an upgrade, 1.4 HDi. Just wondering what the general consensus on these is and if theres any thing I should be wary of with this car?

Am looking at two, one from a dealer who's giving me a terrible trade in value but otherwise is a very nice car. The other is a private sale, I've managed to knock a fair bit off their asking, but they will only accept cash.

The latter situation seems a bit suspicious to me, wouldn't feel too comfy walking around Dublin with that kind of money in my pocket.

    Any thoughts?

What car are you trading in? What year is it?

A 2005 Citroen C2 VTR 1.4 petrol, manual w/160k km on it. Was quoted 1500 trade in, but the price of the car went up 1k for trade in, so saving feck all there tbh.

Sell the c2 for a grand if you can get get it. Nobody wants them though.
They're giving you €500 for your own car. If you can get more then sell it.

I'm guessing the dealer one was one of the cheapest online? Guessing they advertised the straight deal price?

Aye, one of the cheaper ones alright. Wasn't advertised as a straight cash price, wouldn't have minded if it were. Don't mind too much either way, the C2 has served me well since I bought it.

    Cheers for the advice :)

I have a 1.2 petrol 208, 2013 Active model and I think she is an amazing car.

Peugeot have really come good and their cars are excellent value for money imo. So much so, I placed my order for the 308 model today.

I love it but I know some hate it, but the 208 comes with a small stirring wheel.

Also, Peugeot were voted the second most reliable car brand in Germany a few weeks ago.

Just don't lose sight of the cost to change price. That's the most important bit. It's easy give you €3k for the c2 as long as the 208 is overpriced enough :)

Could well be worth looking in Northern Ireland

Thanks Colm, I've looked at NI and by the time I take into account VRT/travel/transport etc, the garage one I'm looking at comes close to the money for NI.

I understand the cost to change, I had an encounter with something like that previously and decided not to fall for the high trade in. Worked out well as I heard the car in question was a lemon.

What's the budget and what year 208 were you looking at?

Decided not to go for it. When I got the uk reg off them, cartell reported two U.K. Write offs, finance outstanding and a discrepancy in the mileage.

This often happens if you are working to too low a budget for a particular year/car.
