HSE/Public Servant Panel Query

In Sept 2015 I was interviewed and placed 2nd on a panel for a permanent position in the HSE. The panel became live on 14th Oct X 1 year.

The person who was placed 1st on the panel was offered and accepted a permanent position from the panel so I moved up to 1st place on the panel.

In May 2016 I started a temporary 12 month sick cover in this grade from being called off the panel. In July 2016 the person I was covering for retired and a request to fill the post permanently was signed off and submitted to the NRS in Sept 2016.

I have contacted the NRS and they have received the job order but "no work has been done on it yet" and is unlikely to be looked at until the New Year due a backlog.

Will I have to re-interview considering the panel has expired? Or will the date of retirement/approval for new post determine that the existing panel should be used? Any advice would be greatly appreciated - many thanks.

Are you a member of a union that you could speak to?

    Hi Zipppy,

I spoke with the union and they've said there's nothing they can do until there's an issue as such....however I'd be loathe to kick up a fuss then if it is re-advertised in case it goes against me (subconsciously even) at interview stage.

I'd just really like to know what the standard expectation would be? In a common sense world I'd feel it would make no sense to endure costs etc of re-advertising and re-interviewing when the post is filled by the panel already... but of course I'd say that!

I'm pretty sure that mine said that the panel was for a year but they reserved the right to extend it for up to three!

That would be perfect! Fingers crossed so :)
