Does the Amazon fire stick work in Ireland? Or is chromecast better? I just want to turn as HDTV into smart. Thanks

The whole idea of the chromecast is it takes over the stream from the phone once you start casting. You can still use your phone for other things when using the chromecast. The firestick will run things like kodi.

They're really quite different products anf it depends on what you want to use them for.

    I have both items

The Firestick will work in Ireland no problem. It's a bit more fully featured, and you can install games and apps to it. I have found that it is a pretty slow device though. A big plus is the ability to install Kodi and Plex on it. And it has it's own remote control. Plus, it has the same features as a Chromecast, meaning you can cast content from your phone or tablet to it.

With the Chromecast, your phone is effectively the remote control. So with Netflix for example, you Cast the instruction from your phone, to the Chromecast, to play a certain movie or TV show. That's all your phone does in the sequence - it is not streaming the movie or whatever to the device, the device does the work itself.

So, as others have pointed out, you can use your phone as you normally would then, once the instruction has been sent to the Chromecast.

    You can do exactly that.

The best way to look at it is that your phone is the remote control that you use to select what you want to watch and your TV is the screen.

It doesn't have to be just your phone. You can cast from your laptop, your desktop, from your phone and tablet. As long there's a wireless network, then you can.

    .

I was just wondering if you can cast content to the Amazon firestick and still use your phone as you can with the Chromecast?
If so how do you do it? Is it Screen Mirroring or something else?

Sorry to hijack the thread....but would anyone advise if the ROKU streaming stick is any better / worse / different to either Amazon or the Chromecast?
