Need advice on returning a car

Bought a car yesterday, within 15 mins a service light came on (even though it had apparently been serviced), and there's little electric things wrong, then all my clothes stink of diesel.
It's a Citroen c5, not exactly a simple car to fix.
So I'm looking at bills bills bills, none of which was clear when I was buying
I paid with PayPal, and I want to return it to the seller now.

    Legally, any advice?
Bought it yesterday bear in mind! But I did ring after 15 mins and asked about bringing it back.

Not from a dealer = private sale. Doesn't matter what your Paypal statement says. Caveat emptor*, I'm afraid.

    * Latin for 'don't ever buy a Citroen'.

He's professing ignorance of the issues

Here's the thing as well, it's registered in a different name to his, I found out after signing the papers and paying

Makes no odds, unless he sold it on behalf of somebody who didn't want it sold. In which case the matter is between owner and seller. Nothing illegal about selling a car for somebody else.

Well, rang up my mechanic. Turned out to be an injector issue causin the fumes, anywhere from €250-500 to sort, then another €250 for the fuel additive tank to be sorted, plus 2 new tyres needed, plus the electric problem with the car charger port thingy, plus new wipers and all that little stuff would have had be down about €1,000

Ended up giving him £150 to take it back........! On the bus home now!
    Lesson learnt.....
    Thanks for the advice!

Was the car sold through a website and how was the condition of it advertized? Did you check the car at all before buying? Is this your first car?

Bring you mechanic with you next time, always have a car checked over.

In general never ever buy a car from somone private selling cars that are not in their name, usually these are cars nobody at all wants as they are riddled with issues.

OP, you got lucky. Never a good ideal to buy a car blindly. Always look over a car, test drive it and have somebody who knows their stuff to check it out first.

I usually drive fords and know them well, bought a good few cars and bikes over the years.
Condition was described as driving 100%, no issues at all

I did give it a check and a test drive, but I was looking for different things. Sound of the engine, how it drove, checked the bodywork, tires, under the hood, that sort of thing.
No way of telling about the fumes till I'd been in it for a proper drive.
It had a strong air freshener to mask this I think. So it was only when I got home, I realized I stank of diesel.
And the service light + fuel particle filter additive light thing was not on during the test drive

The Citroen c5 is a complicated yoke, that's all I'll say about it, would have needed a Citroen enthusiast or mechanic with me

    C5 is a great car, he's earning €150 a day with it.

Yeah, I'm in an 09 Citroen C5 estate and it's not thrown up a single issue (well, it has, but they're all wear and tear items that I expected).

I'm a fan of Citroen based on my car. But I realise everyone's gonna have different experiences.
