What does it mean if you key in the reg of a car you're going to buy and it says 'No Irish or UK vehicle details were found for registration 131X12345'.
It's a UK import, does this just mean the details haven't been updated yet with the new irish reg? This has me worried :-(

Has the car been taxed in Ireland?
are you sure you have the reg right?

Yes I have the right reg and dealer said he only has the car a short while. Hasn't been taxed yet.

Very likely. One of my colleagues bought a car, and saw the very same message 2-3 weeks after registering it.

    Be patient. ;)

X is not a valid county code in Ireland... I'm not surprised it is not found.

Is it on UK or Irish plates? If it's now on Irish plates get the UK reg to check it, if dealer won't give you the UK reg walk away.

It's on Irish plates now, i'll ring him and get the UK reg.

If it's a UK import and recently registered in Ireland but not taxed then it may not be fully on the Shannon system. They will not issue a log book (vehicle registration cert) until it is first taxed.

If it's never been taxed then there's no registration cert.
that's very unusual. I'd be wondering why someone would pay the vrt, not tax it and then a dealer ends up with it.

I would have just assumed the dealership imported it themselves?

They wouldn't pay the vrt up front. They'd register it in the buyers name.
