Toyota C–HR

Well now, this is the first Toyota in years that has actually had me thinking of popping into a showroom to have a look. Incredible that such a conservative company is letting this thing loose. Rear door handles kids can't reach, dangerously poor rear visibility, but just look at it! Bravo Toyota.

It kind of reminds me of the Nissan Juke. Which I've always quite liked actually!

Insert obligatory 'paddy spec' 'no aircon' 'black bumpers' 'windey windows' 'paddy will buy anything with a Toyota badge' comment

It seems to be fairly decent spec, even the entry level model gets the big centre console display.

I dunno lads, the back looks good but the front would make a statue puke.
Just look at it from the windscreen forward!!

It's interesting that there's no diesel engine option, just petrol and hybrid.

And that's how Toyota will be going forward. No diesels

Nearly exact same design ques as Honda and Nissan...I like it but even when Toyota make an effort they don't have much of a mind of their own.

Seems every Marque these days is incorporating some form of coloured stripe into their dashes! Looks good though to be fair to them!

Not seeing it im afraid, nice interior but hideous exterior!

Mazda CX 3 mixed with all the odd angular bits of a Civic moulded onto it.

Looks great and it's a reliable brand unlike the other popular suv.

Just did a quick comparison between the Irish prices and UK prices.
Quite similar in price with the UK one being about 500 cheaper for the sol version.
Noticed that in Ireland the sol version has leather as standard whereas it's an optional extra in the UK.

I think that screen is too big for where its positioned. Looks like it obstructs the view quite a bit.

If you are a Hobbit. The screen blocks the end of the bonnet, if you drive looking there you've bigger problems than the screen blocking your view

I also have reservations about it, particularity at night with that much illumination so near to your field of vision. Hopefully it has a night setting to reduce the glare.

If it's like other Toyotas it will have a night mode, tied in with dimmer control (maybe automatic) for the rest of the dashboard lights.

    Looks good to me.

A tad strange they have a sh1tty looking digital clock from an 80s Corolla stuck into the corner :)

Well maybe not obstructs the view as much as being prominently in your field of view. Which is usually a good thing, like a HUD or Audi style screen, which is very minimalist.

The C-HR looks similar to the new Peugeot 3008 SUV, but that Toyota have left the clocks low, and put the LCD inside a much larger surround to make it look big and impressive, and to me is far less tasteful.

Yes, but at least it doesn't look like a Toyota.

I don't know it could be worse and look something like this thing:

It's amazingly well equipped for an Irish spec Toyota; auto dimming rear view mirror, 17 inch alloys, the colour display, a leather steering wheel and climate control all standard:eek:.

Sure the geriatrics who buy the Corolla now get air conditioning (only 12 years after Toyota UK fitted it as standard to every Corolla, but better late than never, and of course Auris does not have this bare necessity as standard) and even bluetooth as standard, not that the ould wans who buy Corollas know anything about bluetooth, but sure bless it will allow them to pretend they're all hip with younger people and say they have this 'new fangled' technology.

On that actually - Bluetooth should be a legal requirement for all new cars.

GSM blocker when the car is in motion would be better.

Checked out one today, top spec model. Didn't drive it. Looks good in the flesh. Deal breaker for me was the rear. Top spec has black headlining and between that, the huge C pillar and small rear windows it was like sitting in a coal bunker. Very claustrophobic, I'd hate to put anyone back there. Maybe lesser models will have light headlining which will brighten things up a bit. That huge blind spot would concern me too, shoulder check would be useless so you would be relying entirely on the mirrors, merging could be a nightmare. Pity as it is a nice package otherwise.
