    Pre-judge much?

Whole of Dublin practically covered in the map but you conclude only unemployed people light bonfires.

In fairness in the southside there isn't land to build much needed houses let alone somewhere to have a bonfire.

seems pretty spread out. Anyone I see collecting for bonfires are early teens who certainly aren't claiming dole so its hardly relevant.

Map doesn't seem to imply what you say it does. A hell of a lot of "nice" areas on there as well.

The examples listed on the twitter feed seem to be more what you are getting at.

OP's a bit of an arse for the topic. You, however, are a lot worse for doing that fcuking 'much?' thing.

    Bonfires are deadly.

    Nice work, OP!

For your next assignment, please map the attendees at last year's Oireachtas Banking Inquiry with their residential areas. Just for the sake of consistency, like.

Agree it's Only accepted in certain areas. Not sure about the dole claimant stuff.

That actual thought came to me earlier.

Driving home earlier from visiting my Mum I saw loads of bonfires on open green areas (some very near to houses) and a couple of times expected a brick to hit my car.

Got home and ne'er a bonfire in sight. It just would not be tolerated here. People pay to keep the green areas landscaped so a dirty big bonfire would not be the done thing.

Halloween is a horrible time in certain areas, tomorrow, yet again, for the umpteenth time, we will read stories of helpless pets burnt to death, thrown into fires by scumbags and fire brigade and ambulance crews attacked.

Hallowe'en just seems a night when it's ok to be a thug.

Knowing I'm away from all that makes getting up at 6.30 to pay the mortgage worthwhile.

That looks like riot police in Finglas ffs!
Why don't they just leave the fires burning in those areas where the trucks are attacked etc? Then again if they left them a child would probably die and they'd be blamed... tricky isn't it...

Its only teenagers making the bonfires regardless so doesn't really mean much..but yeah teenagers in more disadvantaged areas are more likely to make bonfires I suppose so you got a point there..dont see how important that is though

Punish the parents. Cut dole for them for failing to control delinquent youths. Problem solved.

Lets all calm down and remember the simple fact that fire is fun.

Whatever about the people and kids who started it the expert level knack-bags who kept setting off bangers and were shouting at each other till 6 in the morning around my area are deffinitely on the dole, left the house at 7 and 5-6 of them are still drinking on the green and had even relit the fecking thing

It is a brilliant title....but define "density".

I suppose it could mean.......the numbers of them in the one area, or density as in Brainpower :pac::pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,058 ✭✭✭✭anewme

Driving into work this morning, passed a load of litter and black ruined grass and rubbish strewn about.

Also passed a Police Cordon.......just reading the news saw it was this.

I think it was an attempt not to generalise by not saying 'council estates' that failed miserably :D

As a culchie, I get confused by Halloween bonfires as everyone knows that Bonfire Night is the 23rd of June.

Now that I live in Ballymun, though, I have to say there were fewer bonfires last night than the previous few years, and they were smaller too. Their construction really is haphazard, though. I wonder if we could organise a cultural exchange to learn pallet stacking off the Unionists?

As a fellow culchie I get confused when someone suggests that bonfires aren't a Halloween tradition. They always were round my neck of the woods (Louth). Whereas my mother comes from North Armagh, about 40 miles from where I was raised, and their bonfire night was always in August.

In the west of Ireland (in my experience) it's always been on St. John's Eve. I never experienced a Halloween bonfire until I moved till the east coast.
