    Hi Guys,

I have a 2001 1.4 corolla saloon with 78k, when the car heaths up and I go from a stand still a rattle comes from the left hand side but goes just after 2 thousand revs. It does not seem to be coming from the engine itself as I have stopped and reved the engine at its very smooth. Just wondering is there any ideas before I give it to the mechanic.

    Cheers

    Inlet manifold?

Which engine? If its petrol it could be pre ignition which would only occur under load i.e. acceleration.

Iys the 1.4 vvti, I had a look at a few YouTube videos of inlet manifold noise and doesn't sound like it, also the noise is not there when I'm stationary, it's only on acceleration and usualy up to 2k revs and just over,

If its pre ignition rattle it would point to an ignition problem. Coil, or plugs or ht leads. Hope this helps

The clutch does judder, I have been nursing it because it isn't that bad yet, I'm wondering could it be the clutch plate?

    Thanks for the replys!

I'd be looking to one of the heat shields over the exhaust or at the exhaust manifold. They can rust through right beside the nuts holding them in place and cause something like what you are describing. A washer may well sort it for you.

It's Probably the timing chain or the tensioner. I've had a few those cars and they all had that rattle from about 1500-2k revs. They will do it when the engine is underload. When Revving them from stationary there was no rattle.
