Seems crazy spending that much on a heavy laptop if it's going to be lugged around while traveling?

    It's overpriced, most alienware are.

    But,

They are built for gaming and will be suitable for most games, Just not as maximum graphics.

Other than Razor, Origin, or Acer Predator you are looking at custom build.

But Alienware does have a good reputation.

Why buy it over there, though? You could get the same spec for the same price here in the EU, assuming he spends more time in Ireland than he does in the US.

PC Specialist are a good place to look, or also Overclockers UK have a good range of MSI, Asus, etc gaming laptops. Alienware are expensive for the brand name.

So the graphics card on this is not quite as good as the Alienware, but it is cheaper and also smaller. But I would expect it to be able to handle most games on pretty high settings. Plus that 512GB SSD is a plus. Worth considering.
