New TV - not accepting "Free to Air" channels

    Hi
    I've just purchased a tv - Lg-43UH603V-ZE.
It will do everything it is supposed to do, such as connect to Saorview, Netflix, Utube etc - but it does not seem to be able to connect to my "Free to air " satellite dish.
The signal coming from the dish is very good as I can hear it very strong with a Signal Finder, but when I try to tune it in on the TV - it says "Signal strength 0% "
Would anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it,.
    Thank you

Do you not need a "Freeview" tuner in the TV or an external freeview set top box to read the signal from the dish?

Have a look at the end of the satellite cable going in to the tv and make sure that the connection is secure and double check it's going in to the TV all the way.

No "Free" box required for this TV - its built in.

Have you set up the correct satellite info and your location info (or made up location info). Are you even sure you are pointed at the correct satellite?

I've checked the line into the back of the TV, It did look a bit short so I extended it a bit and inserted it in a bit tighter. I've check 2 Satellite position (19 & 28.5) - Hasn't done any good.

Have you tried settling the input to Live ?

Do you have an old TV to verify that the signal to the cable is still good, like another FreeView TV. I know that you had that cable plugged in to the other TV and it worked, but it would be good just to verify that it is STILL working, and that nothing has gone wrong with the cable or the dish since you put in the new TV. Then you could focus on the TV and finding out what issues can happen with it.

Can you plug an old Sky or other satellite box in to see that they are receiving the channels?

    Go to 28.2 east

Sorry - can you explain further - I don't know what you mean by that.

I tried a 2nd Tv in it and it didn't work either.
I brought the 2nd Tv and the new Tv to a separate house to test and they did work so I'm thinking it might be either,
    1) the cable,
    2) the LNB unit or
    3) the Dish itself,
but the question is why is the signal strong on the cable ??

As I stated to another person above - I tried a separate Tv and it had the same problem.
I'm pretty confident now the problem is not the Tv.

    I think it's Astra 28.5e - but I'll look for a 28.2e and see if that's available.

    You were right - its 28.2e - not 28.5e

    Any other ideas ??

Must be a LNB issue so. Can you test with a freesat box or a old sky box first before you go spending any cash. Failing that check the cabling connections ect.

Does the TV not have an option for Freesat? This will give the UK channels without any manual tuning. It may require the TV to be set the UK region (this is the way it works for my Samsung at least).

If all you have done to prove the dish is pointed at the correct satellite is plug in sat finder and adjust the dish for the best signal then chances are you aren't pointing the dish at the right satellite.

Tv has to be connected to a separate Dish.
I've reset it to the Uk region and retried @ 28.2e - but no luck I'm afraid

    Yes - agreed.
Strange thing is it did work on the old TV a few weeks ago - this had a separate Freesat box,, but somehow has stopped now coincidentally with the purchase of the new Tv, but neither the old Tv with the Freesat box connected or the new one are working now at this location, but both will work at a separate location.

If you can get a signal on the sat finder then that goes a good way to suggesting the cable and the LNB are OK (but not 100% proof).

Start again with the Sat finder and see if there you find any other satellites within a couple of degrees of the current one that shows up on the sat finder.

Of course if you haven't moved the dish something else may be wrong? But I'd still try moving around just a fraction.

Listening to the signal again - it is strong so I think it has to be something else.

If the dish hasn't moved why did you test with a sat finder? Which end you testing from the end of the cable at the TV or at the dish.

You can get a good signal a couple of degrees away from the satellite you need to be pointing at there are lots of them up there.

    Problem is solved.
    It was the LNB afterall.
I replaced it and its now working.
    Thanks everyone for your help.
