Employing Someone That Lives in Other EU Country. Easy to Do?

Does anyone have any experience in this?

We normally work with contract web developers, who are self employed/bill us for their time spent working with us/have other clients

Have a new person in Austria that we might be taking on that it is not in a position to be self employed/has no other clients

How would it work employing someone living in another EU country?

Am assuming we'd have to pay employers PRSI etc and they would pay tax locally?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Will check with accountants next week but hoping to get any advice in meantime.

    Thanks

You would have to operate whatever system they have for PAYE in Austria. Not at all like just paying employer PRSI here.

    Hello,

I'm Austrian and I do have knowledge about taxes in Austria since I worked in that field for a good while. (Did taxes for small companies)

The thing in AUT is, that person without any problem is able to be self-employed. You'd have to pay him via the Austrian system and I suspect (I'm sorry, I don't want to judge anyone without knowing), that the preference getting paid via the Irish taxation is much higher appreciated because you pay quite a bit more in AUT below 35k than in Ireland.
Being self-employed takes a lot of commitment and it means high cost in insurance - I do agree, a lot of people fear the SVA because they can be an utter pain. Plus if you have no experience with taxation at all, you need to fork out the money for someone to do it for you, which I would highly recommend.
If you have any questions, you can send me a PM but I would HIGHLY recommend not employing someone based in Austria, I'd rather pay them on a self-employed base. Of course I do not know the exact numbers, but I don't see how this would make any sense. Maybe bring up relocation to Ireland, it can pay off.
